Check out gasbuddy and enter your zip code. Fairly up to date, but as fast as prices are changing, use it as a guide, not a menu!

Back when gas prices were hitting $2/gal, the following approach was used to "punish" the gas companies: pick a day and convince everybody to not buy gas that day. Of course this doesn't work, since the gas company doesn't care if you skip buying gas on Tuesday, as long as you come back on Wednesday and buy gas. They get their money either way. So other than being a highly publicized protest, it accomplished little.

This variation may have better results: Boycott Exxon/Mobil. Go to any other station you want, just don't go to Exxon/Mobil stations. Not today, not tomorrow. Not until they get their prices down to, oh, say $2.25 per gallon. Even if they get their prices 50 cents below competition, don't go until they get it to $2.25. The logic here is that if nobody goes to Exxon/Mobil stations, they'll drop their prices until customers return. If they drop their prices, hopefully other companies will follow.

It will only work if a LOT of people do it, and only if they all boycott the same company, and only if they follow through all the way to $2.25.

Why Exxon/Mobil? Because they are national and highly visible, but other than that? More or less random pick. Is it fair to Exxon -- after all, they're just passing on to the customer the price they pay for oil and refinement, right? Frankly, I don't care. I don't want to pay $3 per gallon, and this is all I can do to avoid it. I'm already driving only when I have to, and my car gets 35 mpg on a good day.

Thoughts?
