That gas boycott thing...
Sep. 7th, 2005 09:41 pmYou may recall that back in August, I ranted a bit about gas prices, and a possible fix. It was meant mostly as an expression of frustration, and though I think it might work, I didn't think it would be taken seriously. Maybe it wasn't, but maybe it was. There are now e-mails floating around the internet (the "send to all your friends" type of e-mails) that include variations of what I posted, but some details are the same throughout: the attacked company is Exxon/Mobil, the prior boycott silliness (don't buy gas on Tuesday) is mentioned, and some random low price is targeted. At least one variation is attributed to Phillip Hollsworth.
So I'm not sure if I started it, or if it was started independently.
Behind this cut is an ( example of the e-mail. )
EDIT: The aforementioned e-mail appears on a Snopes.com entry as being from 2004. The Snopes article also makes some good points about why such tactics wouldn't really work.
