Epson rant

Some time ago, I bought an Epson all-in-one. Within a few months, it stopped working. I contacted the company, and was told that if I followed certain instructions, I could have the printer repaired/replaced. The instructions: Run the cleaning routine three times (effectively emptying the print cartridges), and if that doesn't work, buy fresh carts and run the cleaning routine three more times. If that doesn't work, send the printer to them for repair.

Did I follow their instructions (and waste nearly $100 in ink)? Nope, I went out and bought an HP. Love it. No problems at all for several months now.

Now, I received a notice that Epson has settled a class-action lawsuit because their printing program considers print carts empty when there is still substantial ink in them. The settlement -- a $45 per printer award, as a gift cert for the Epson e-store.

Why is this company even able to stay in business?
