A reasonably well-made family drama for ten seasons now, "7th Heaven" is concluding its run this evening. A bit melodramatic, predictable, and preachy, it still had me and Blueeowyn sitting in front of the telly most Monday nights for the past several years, watching the tv-family grow and change. Blueeowyn started watching it with its first season, and introduced me to it when we started dating. I actually like that it's a little preachy -- I may not always agree with the stand it takes, but I like that it takes one. So many shows now are about being bad, or at least naughty, and either getting away with it or even worse, nobody caring. I liked Picket Fences from several years ago for the same reason -- it took a stand.
Hopefully other shows will come along that say, no, it's not always ok to do what you want. There really are consequences to our actions. Sometimes, the answer is no, and sometimes you can't fix the problems you've caused.
Goodbye 7th Heaven, you'll be missed.
