same-sex ban fails in Senate

The proposed same-sex ban failed in the Senate, 48 for, 49 against, not even a simple majority. Here's an article with details. Of particular note, it says, "Sen. Chuck Hagel, R-Neb., did not vote this time because he was traveling with Bush."

Also of note, a poll in the article indicates that 59% of those polled are against the ban, 39% for (and some undecided).
