After seeing the Play! concert at Wolf Trap on Friday, I felt the need to play a new game. What I ended up with wasn't new, but was new to me. "Halo" is a couple years old now, but when it came out was listed as the best FPS ever by many reviewers. I'm not generally an FPS fan, but it was cheap, the background music was cool at the concert, and I had an itch that needed scratching. It helps that the story concept is very solid, and the AI companion (think Jimminy Cricket with an attitude) is reasonably competent. I only had about an hour to play it this weekend, but it was really not what I expected from an FPS. It had much more the feel of a coin-op, which I've missed in the last several years.
If my enjoyment level stays up for Halo, maybe I'll actually save up and get Prey next.
Speaking of the cricket, did you know that in the original, Pinnochio repeatedly kills his 6-legged companion, who in turn keeps returning? Very wacky, that, eh?
