Exercise note

I'm not the healthiest of individuals, but I am working on getting better. I count calories, I take the stairs, and my parking lot is a quarter-mile from my office. I eat my veggies and drink lots of water. I also drink too much coffee, and can be tempted by hot blueberry cobbler. A la mode. But I digress.

Until recently I haven't gotten adequate exercise. So in mid-June I started walking two to four times per week. Initially my path was about a three-fourths of a mile, which I gradually built up to 2.8 miles. (I've got a little map showing miles between streets in my neighborhood).

Then I decided to shift to jogging (that was late July). I even bought appropriate shoes. This meant dropping the path back to 1.8 miles, but I was jogging about 20% of it. You'd think the legs, or lungs, or heart would be the first to complain, but it was actually the "love-handles" -- I guess being jounced against the ribs caused some irritation.

As of yesterday, I was up to 80% of the trip as jogging, and I hope to get that to all jogging by week's end, then work up the mileage from there.

The bouncy love-handle irritation was mostly the first few days -- then the legs and lungs took over with the complaints!

But it's good for me, and I have enough experience to know my limits. I'm just out of practice!
