It makes more sense than the kids who posted (from their cell phone) to one of the sites (don't remember which 'up to the minute tiny posts' site it was) that they had gotten stuck in storm drain. They didn't call the equivalent of 911 for the country they were in (Australia maybe?) and someone who saw the post made the call.

Poor dog though.
