Idiocy in the news today

They were just out joyriding...
Seven teens, none with licences, stole a car and went joyriding in Troutman, NC, they were swerving, speeding, not wearing seat belts, and didn't pull over for a cop. In the insuing chase, the teens crashed and all seven died. One of the fathers is blaming the cop, saying that the kids "were just out joyriding..."

Joyriding article

In other news, I'm convinced the leaders of the FBI should start their own x-files series. They've told police to consider people carrying almanacs as suspicious. Seriously, this is getting beyond stupid. Sure, carrying an almanac around is a little strange, but really...

Almanacs = suspicious

I am tired and generally unsympathetic to the plight of morally and intellectually inept juveniles, so I'll refrain from making nasty comments.

I will, however, warn you that there is a hotbed of terrorist activity integrated into our own society. It's a nationally-organized group of intellectual warmongerers who believe -- strongly, one might even say militaristically (is that a word?) -- in gathering as much information into one place as possible. Want to know the location of a U.S. military bases? They can help. Looking for detailed information regarding the political structure of most nations? They know right where to look. In fact, they can find you just about any information that has not been hermetically sealed under lock and key -- and sometimes can even find that!

Most people know these informational extremists as librarians.

"Most people know these informational extremists as librarians."

This is of course why librarians have their own entry in the Patriot Act [I] prohibiting them from telling anyone if they are asked questions about research requests that people have made (person by person at least ... though I suspect that they could be asked if anyone wanted to find, say, tourist information on Washington, DC with important buildings to see and maps).

*sigh*

I'm not even going to comment on the sheer stupidity of the kids OR the parent.
