Hey everybody! Make a new year's resolution to check your credit records at each of the three big credit bureaus! I think this is free once per year. edit: not free except in special circumstances, but each is less than $10.

Here are their websites:

Credit bureaus

Equifax
1-800-525-6285

Experian
1-888-397-3742

TransUnion
1-800-680-7289

An excellent suggestion! I'm partial to using Equifax's "3-in-1 Credit Report with ScorePower" when I want to review my own creditworthiness. The ScorePower addition is handy because most financial institutions make decisions on creditworthiness based on that (or a similar) score.

It is very worthwhile to find a way to review all three of the credit reporting agencies' information because you, as the consumer, have the right to submit a letter to the credit agency to be added to your credit profile so that creditors can read your explanation(s) (if necessary) as to why you might not have the best credit score in the country. It is also good to do so because people can lose track of their own accounts.. Open/unused credit can be just as bad as over-used credit, depending on the amount. There are a ton of variables that help to determine how creditworthy you are. Knowing your own credit history is a big step, IMO, towards becoming more responsible for your own financial future.

So a big "bravo" to you for posting such a useful set of links! :)
