Hmm. I didn't realize you hadn't read the "future History" series. It's a good idea to read them in order... The introductory short story first, Time Enough for Love, and then The Number of the Beast.... or it won't make sense. Thjere's also another one that comes after, but goes back in time... about his mother's biography (Long's not Heinlein's) but I can't remember the title right now.
Heinlein is one of those authors that people either like or loathe. I like his work, but I can understand why those who hate him do so... some of his opinions get pretty libertarian when he gets political. And some people think of him as the ultimate feminist, while others interpret his work as a constant put down of women.
I'll be interested to hear your opinion.
