Fortunately, Rita didn't do much damage to refineries this weekend, so maybe we'll see some relief at the pumps soon! But gas prices aren't my point today.

I may have seen this posted before, but the reminder is worth it, I think:
If you pay for gas with a debit card, the station may send an initial charge of up to $75 to your bank until they can process your actual purchase amount. The $75 charge may be unavailable in your checking account for several days, and you won't know until you innocently bounce a check! The gas stations that do this don't notify you ahead of time, and it's not true at all stations.

Read this MSN Money article for more details.

i use my am-ex card for gas, 'cause i get double-miles.

i rarely if ever use my atm card as a "visa" because, protected or not, i simply don't trust anybody with anything that directly accesses my bank account. i actually hate paypal now, in general, because rather than let me transfer money as a cash withdrawel from a credit card, they only take cash withdrawels as e-checks from my bank account. i'd really rather they not have that info.

(granted, those double-miles are for "delta", so i don't know how much longer they'll be worth something, but there you go)

Ahem.

Well, maybe this will convince you to finally go back to amex and get them to send that duplicate card for me? Because until you finally do that, I'm using my debit card at Costco because I don't have anything else I can use.
