Ninjas and dark elves at ren fest?

What was with all the ninjas and dark elves this weekend? Was there a sale on black fabric at JoAnns or something? Very strange...

It brings to mind a question. How LARP friendly should a renaissance festival be?

Actually there was a huge 50% off sale at Joanne’s this weekend.

As far as LARP friendly...as long as they're just bringing the costume and not the character, I see no problems. But the first time Zoltrad the ranger elf tries to swipe my tankard because he’s a thief by trade, he’s going to find a +13 boot of ass kicking.

Unfortunately, I saw them create quite a stir by racing (dangerously) through a crowd. And I'm pretty sure they knew that they shouldn't be doing that, because I later ran into a group of 19 to 20ish men who were carrying around identical brown paper bags with handles, filled with black costumes... ie, they snuck themselves in, and changed inside to create their sensation.... they made themselves scarce when they saw me eyeing their bags....

If it's an APPROPRIATE larp, as in having to do with something vaguely Tudor/E'bethan, I'm okay with it. As long as it doesn't detract from or interfere with the "intended" street show, it would certainly give the regular faire attendee something to do besides drink to excess and deal with everybody's personal drah-mah.
