Sony recalls CDs that open door to viruses

Sony has been including a bit of software on their recent CDs, so that if you play them on your computer, the CD installs a bit of programming that keeps you from copying the CD. However, the Sony software also created a serious security hole that recent viruses have been exploiting.

Because of this, Sony has recalled all CDs with this bit of code. Here is an article about it for your enjoyment.

don't use Sony's Uninstaller

(if you already have the RootKit virus installed) as it still leaves behind some tools that will break your ability to use some cds in your system.

there are 3rd party tools that *completely* remove all of Sony's crap AND tell you if you've been infected by other trojans that were hiding behind the Sony anti-detection kit. go look 'em up on /.. ;-)

Good grief. What won't they try. I think this anti-piracy stuff is crap. Yea, I believe performers should get paid for what they do, but I also think that the companies need to find better ways of encouraging you to not pirate music. Things like cheaper cds, being able to buy individual songs, etc. Not thinking they have the right to say how many times I can copy a cd. What if I want 1 on my computer, 1 at work, 1 in my car, 1 at my summer house, 1 for my iPOD, etc, etc. It's my business. If I try & sell it then you can say I crossed the line. Sheesh.
