Before Romeo and Juliet, there was Tristan and Isolde...
I'm really looking forward to this one. When I was an undergrad, I started a class in fantasy literature -- which based on previous years' book lists focused on quality modern fantasy lit. However, this teacher believed it should focus on the traditions that preceded modern fantasy, and T&I was on the reading list. The class wasn't what I wanted at the time, so I dropped it, but I've felt like I should read T&I ever since.
Amusing "reader review" from the Washington post. My favorite line: "So the guys over in what-will-someday-be-England and the Irish are arch rivals, right? Except that sometimes it's hard to tell them apart. I finally came up with a system: The Irish had better jewelry, but the English had better hair product."
