Most who read my journal probably recall my warnings not to ignore the alternative minimum tax -- more and more people are hit with it every year. A truly devious way to allow the government to appear to lower taxes for middle-income households while not really decreasing the taxes taken by the government.
But this post is not about the AMT, but to point to an MSN page about other scary tax stuff.

If you've recently received unemployment, social security, or debt forgiveness, you might be taxed on it!

Actually, they've taxed unemployment for years now... At least four of them (since I was a post 9-11 layoff)...

Didn't mean to imply that the taxes were new. Only that anyone who has (for the first time) received money from uncommon sources may not be aware that it may have tax-strings attached.
