You may recall that a couple of months ago, a laptop with millions of names and personal info of veterans was stolen. They found it intact!

Also of note, apparently they've been trying to scapegoat the employee who had the data on his laptop harddrive, but it's been revealed that he had permission to take the data home, and help in transferring the data to his laptop. Typical: take a guy who is trying to do his job better by working at home using materials and methods provided by his superiors, and fire him for doing so. Meanwhile, the people responsible for security training, who failed to make the data secure, run around getting paid for pointing fingers.

Unless they show gross negligence on his part - leaving the laptop on the Metro, etc. - he shouldn't be held responsible.
