Gas prices

What the heck is going on with gas prices? Gas is around 2.50 per gallon (87 octane), which is about 55 cents higher than a month ago (according to this WTOP article. Is crude higher? not really. Refineries down? down that I've heard. Hurricanes? Ummmm....not this year. What's the deal?

It's even worse in parts of California, where prices are topping 3 per.

Isn't it based on the price when the gas was purchased by the supplier, not today's price? I have no idea how long gas sits in the tank before it gets put into a gas station.

Or it could just be that they're trying to desensitize us. It seems that prices will skyrocket, there will be outcry, politicians will "do something" and prices will drop. Then, a month or three later prices creep up again until they're at or above what they were during the outcry. Have you noticed this as well?

I think pump prices reflect what the station will pay for the next shipment, not the current shipment. I started another thread on gas prices with a graph that surprised me.

Oh- but there's never any price gouging. That never happens.
