car repair, quick answer needed

Auto repair place is suggesting replacement of distributor cap and rotor. Is this a relatively easy repair that I could do myself? What's a reasonable price to have them do it?

Far too late to help you, but... yes. This is one of the simplest repairs one can make on a car. The most important thing is to somehow label or differentiate the cables leading to your spark plugs: they *must* be attached to the distributor cap's hookups correctly or the car will be misfiring and potentially damage your engine. The diagram for which cable goes where may be in your owner's manual; if not, just look for it in one of the repair guides sold at the auto parts store (but don't bother buying the book, just copy the diagram).

Thanks. As it turns out, Saturn SL doesn't have a distributor cap at all! It uses direct ignition.
