I just found the 1991 Maryland Ren Fest program when going through some boxes. I wasn't part of the Fest back then, but some of you were there! It was my first visit...

The year was 1535, Baron Deiter was in town to collect 500 years of back taxes, and the Seymour family is foisting daughter Jane off as a potential replacement for the insuffiently fertile Anne Boleyn.

Bill Huttel as King Henry VIII
Mary Ann Jung as Queen Anne Boleyn
Tom Plott as Suffolk
Theresa Flynn as Jane Seymour
Randy Dalmas as her brother, Edward
Stephon Walker as Baron Deiter
[livejournal.com profile] dashrippington as a Royal Guard (my, oh my, has he gone downhill since then!)

Tim Shaw was in "The Pyrates" (not listed as Pyrates Royale)

The village was headed by Mayor Bribeworthy (David Marsh) and his sister Lady Rhiannon (Mia Reeves)

Stephen Denz as Dr. Croaker

On the map, there was no Thistledew (Um, I mean Fortune) or Jury Rig or archery booth. Near the joust arena was the "Chess Stage" and the Red Barrel. There was a Center Stage (where Piland's is now) and a Symphonious Stage (where the Climbing Wall is now). I don't see a Gatehouse Stage, but the Lyric, Globe, and Royal are there.

Special event days were Children-Free weekend (I mean, children got free admission); Deaf awareness day, Scottish weekend, and Seniors day.

The season was eight weekends, and the day started at 10:30, with the royal arrival at 11, the third joust at 5:30, and pub sing at 6 at the Red Barrel.

One of the foods was cannon balls (deep fried breaded meatballs on a stick!)

My second season. My first season of working 1/2 run.

I remember pub sing in the old location ... and I remember finally learning how to Fling well enough to dance in the rocks (the injured reserve got the stage).

I've got a '94 tucked away in storage, my last season visit as a patron. the big standout for me was seeing Cappricio Catch Club with only 3 members!

When next I'm able to do my annual garage cleanup, I'll pull it out and scan some of the key pages.

Red Barrel became the Boars Head, solely by a rename. no changes to it at the time (that would come later).

I think center stage was closer to where the refurbished White Hart Stage is now. White Hart was configured in another direction and not so big.

I started in 1994, but I remember Mayor Bribeworthy and his sister as she ended up become the Countess Golddigger.

In 1993, when I worked games the story line was 1537. Jane Seymour was super pregnant (wearing the purple gown that Viscountess Seymour wore when she was pregnant two years ago). Mayor Bribeworthy got hit on the head at opening gate and thought he was King Alfred the Great. Cromwell (Tom Plott) was trying to get him to sign away the village of Revel Grove. At the end of the day, the mayor got his memory back and was killed by, can't remember character name, but is now Hack of Hack and Slash. Countess Golddigger Croaker went insane with her grief. Yes, she married Dr. Croaker because she thought he was rich and spent the day trying to kill him. Queen Jane went into labor and after the 5:30 joust a rider emerged on the field with the news that the baby was born and grabbed a blue flag from the end of the field to signal that it was a boy. (there were two flags one pink and one blue)

in 1991 i had just gone to my first ren faire ever... in Colorado. none of my friends wanted to dress up and i thought it looked like the COOLEST THING EVAR. so i bought a satiny blue pointy princess hat with streamers and promptly wore it around the rest of the day with my shorts and tee-shirt. my boyfriend at the time thought i did NOT look like the coolest thing evar and made many opportunities to tell me so. but i didn't care.

note that in 1991 i was not in 5th grade like one might imagine a person who just bought a pointy princess hat to be; i was a sophomore in college. *lol*

you're going to attempt making those cannonballs and bring them to breakfast one morning, aren't you?
