Ethan (the thin guy) is mostly a simple-minded social misfit whose only skills are playing video games and creating video-game-related thing-a-ma-bobs (like the little tyke-sized X-box controller). As a side note, one of the comic's supporting characters is an X-box that Ethan upgraded into a sentient robot.

But beyond video games, Ethan doesn't quite understand how the world works. Kind of like a young Homer Simpson. The "awwww..." is at how desperately he's trying to be responsible, even if he's failing miserably.

Well, that, and the cute little X-box controller.
