MS Word spelling problems?

About half-way through a document, the spelling dictionary goes wacky.

All of a sudden, it doesn't know words like "seed" and "oil" (though it did offer a spelling suggestion of "oil" with an umlaut over the i). If I type "seed" in the first half of the doc, it's fine. If I type it (carefully, no typos!) later in the doc, it gets a red squigly.

WTH?

First guess: there's a section break with a different language selected (under Tools). That's just a guess, though.

OK, fixed it. Thanks! I pasted a couple of lines from a foreign journal, and I guess it brought it's language codes with it!

The language settings may have inadvertantly been changed. Highlight the whole document, go to "Tools/Language/Set Language" and make sure "English (U.S.)" is selected.

Good luck!

Thanks! That worked. I pasted a couple of lines from a Turkish journal, and even though the text was in English, I guess it carried a foreign-language trigger with it.

That'd do it. I'm glad the fix worked!

It's a "feature"

See if you somehow changed the document language. I've had that happen when it thinks I'm trying to type in French or something and I just want plain English. Usually this happens after I use a French phrase or word with the correct accents etc.

Another thing is, occasionally on Windows, systems drop needed core files. Like dictionary.txt. It's a pain.

Me should read other comments first before posting. Oops.
