Dawntreader linked to an LJ that has good info. see above. My thoughts:
It's a beautiful site. There are some valid reasons for looking for a new one, though.
1. The festival is still increasing in popularity, and parking and crowds are too large for the site on some days.
2. Insufficient road access on heavy days.
3. Rules regarding fire
4. Apparently we can't expand the site in the current location -- wetland rules.
Also, if the current lease is nearly up, then it is prudent to consider options -- perhaps this is just a check to see what is out there -- maybe the current site will still be the best of all possible worlds.
The powers-that-be have done a pretty darn good job of evolving this fest from its lowly beginnings to the magic that it is now. I suspect they'll put a lot of thought into if the site moves, and if so, where. And I suspect that whatever they decide will be a pretty good choice.
A house is just a building. It's the people that make it a home.
though my knee jerk response to a move is "no!," you make many good points, and you're right - the good folks in charge have done a wonderful job to this point - and the people of the faire have made it home, so...
years ago my son asked me if revel grove was a real place... i simply couldn't say no, because it has a population, it has a major industry (tourism), it has a culture all its own... yep, sounds like a real place to me
