Faster than light question

I seem to recall an article a few years ago. Scientists created some sort of plasma cloud of metal atoms, or some such, and light travelled much faster through this cloud than it does in a vacuum. Can anybody shed some light on this?

Thanks!

Don't remember anything about it, other than hearing the same... and that they're continuing to work on discovering more of the attributes of plasma as well as possible future applications involving it.

Pretty sure it was information released in the last 4 1/2 years though - or I'd remember more about it - as I'd have read what I could find then, at my level of comprehension, anyway :-)

Is Discover magazine still around? That or Popular Science probably have it in their archives somewhere.
