can't recall name of book

There is a small paperback book of 500 tidbits of advice written by a man for his son when the boy went to college. Things like "do the dishes before going to bed"

Any thoughts on the title?

It was Dad's best advice, or some such. I can remember seeing it a few years ago... in a sort of plaid cover, no?

Excellent! Your title was close enough that I found it! I think the one you were thinking of was "A Father's Book Of Wisdom" and the same author (H. Jackson Brown Jr) wrote the one I was seeking -- Life's Little Instruction Book.
