Computer hardware help?

javasaurusI have the following instruction for installing a piece of hardware: "Use the EEPROM to program the device ID for function 0 to 0x950A" -- I assume this means that there is an eeprom chip on the device card, and that... it has toggles for one or more functions, and that I should flip them to get hex 950A. Is that right? Or is there a software solution to this?
