I played the simplified flat-graphics version of Portal several months ago. Fun puzzle romp. Finally purchased the Orange Box (an XBox game collection which includes the real version of Portal) a few weeks ago, but didn't open it until last night. Wow. Nearly finished the game in one sitting (I'll complete the last two stages tonight).

For those who have no idea what I'm talking about, Portal is a relatively short video game in which you in a lab, controlled by a female-voiced computer (GLaDOS) who wants to test your ingenuity at solving a variety of puzzles of increasing complexity. Plasma balls fly overhead, robotic sentries shoot at you, and you need to get to the end of each set of rooms without dying, falling into pools of acid, or being crushed by falling cubes. Fun! The neat-o gimick is the "portal" - holes that you project onto the walls. when you enter one portal, you exit the other. To cross a deep pit, simply shoot a portal in the wall next to you, and one in the wall on the other side of the pit, and step through.

GLaDOS has been talking about a reception at the end of the trials, and she says there will be cake.
