Playstation 3 will even make toast!

Okay, I'm exagerating a little. But only a little. Apparently, Sony's PS3 will incorporate a multiprocessor "cell" based on many small processors embedded in a bigger processor, able to achieve a total of more than a trillion floating point calculations per second (that's 1 Terahertz, or 1000 GHz, right?).

So what about the toaster? The idea is that in the future, many household appliances (e.g. toasters) will incorporate similar processors, and a PS3 can utilize (via modem) such memory, if it is all net-connected. Cool, eh?

So when is the PS3 coming out? Not for a couple more years, late 2005 at the earliest. Sigh.

If you want a better explanation of the technology, read this PS3 preview article.

Aigh! You had my hopes up, there! :)

Ah well.. so we have to wait until 2005. The PS2 is still a fine gaming machine. The X-Box is also a rather worthy system.. My preference is still with the PS2 only because it's got a lot of my favorite games on it. Final Fantasy X and Final Fantasy X-2.. Jak and Daxter, Kya: The Dark Legacy, just to name a couple. :)
