Great letter by Bette Midler, not!

Recently there has been a letter circulating around the net, supposedly from Bette Midler to the President. It really is a good letter, but Bette had no hand in it. Read the truth (and the letter) at this Snopes article.

http://urbanlegends.about.com/library/bl_bette_midler.htm has a little more detail on how the note became associated with midler. seems it was just cut-n-paste into a fan forum, and others misinterpreted it and spread it about as midler's writing.

what's interesting is how quickly the legend grew. this is only 3 weeks old, from composition to urban legend, all because 1 person copied it without an author attribution to a celeb-oriented site...
