credit checks etc.

This just came through our e-mail system at work. I think everybody knows this, but a good reminder is not a bad thing...

It's important to be careful about solicitations that you receive via phone or e-mail for credit reports. Some are scams to get information about you, including your Social Security Number, and some charge a fee which exceeds what's reasonable.

For Maryland residents, you are entitled to one free credit report per year from each service. You can get one from each of the three major credit rating services by calling their toll-free numbers and following the automated directions.

Equifax 1-800-685-1111
Experian 1-888-397-3742
Transunion 1-800-888-4213

With the large number of identity thefts, it's a good idea to check your credit on a regular basis.

Doot doot doot.

I've never seen it, so I've requested a copy of my credit report. Hm. I think I'm going to request from all three, so I can compare and contrast.
