So often, I've heard people suggest that wines not fit for drinking can at least be used for cooking. However, I think this entry says it all (from my Wine Lover's page-a-day calendar for April 2):
"For me, the definition of a cooking wine is the wine you drink while you're cooking."
It goes on to suggest Thornbury Sauvignon Blanc (from New Zealand, $17/bottle) as a "fresh, flavorful, and invigorating ... that keeps you inspired and happy as you buzz around the kitchen creating the night's masterpiece."
