Went with BlueEowyn last night to see "Bend It Like Beckham" -- a recent release from 20th C. Fox's "independent" arm, Fox Searchlight. Basic premise: Young woman living with her very traditional Indian family in England, has lots of soccer talent, joins amateur circuit w/o her parents' knowledge/permission. In the meantime, her (very traditional) sister is getting married. Good film about growing up in one culture while being steeped in another.
If you are tired of this summer's adrenaline rush spectaculars, can't bear another sappy melodrama, and won't see any film with Adam Sandler, then treat yourself to a matinee and check out this simple but solid film.
