In today's news from WTOPnews.com

Since love wasn't enough, humans have stepped in to help. There may be a little panda on the way!

Apparently the Strathmore Arts Center in Rockville will be welcoming the 17-year brood with all due pomp and circumstance.

Monkey poo! What else needs be said?

I can just hear the chorus singing "My cicada flies sideways, your cicada flies upside down..."

Behavioral training is a wonderful thing. I'm glad they are using it more and more on zoo animals for medical procedures. It allows for less stress to the animal, less use of drugs, and more safety for the handlers. It also probably provides some mental stimulation for the animals.o

Supposedly, believe it or not, Disney's Animal Kingdom was the first to manage to not only get their female elephants trained for such procedures, but also the first to get a pregnant elephant from the process. Never did remember to find out if she managed to carry to term or not...

And isn't it rather amusing that the salute to Brood X is planned for a month after they should be gone *and* just in time to welcome the Dog Day cicadas (the yearly ones) to the area?
