Found at snopes: how telemarketing may still continue
Basically, check anything you sign for fine print saying that you give them permission to telemarket you, in spite of "do not call" registry. Especially free offers and contest forms.

Date: 2003-08-05 11:57 am (UTC)It has gotten to the point with me that anytime I talk to a company on the phone I explicityly tell them that I do NOT want my number sold, used, transferred, etc.. The only 'marketing' calls that I am willing to accept are from my credit cards (I don't LIKE them but), from stores telling me that my order is in (which isn't really telemarketing), and friends trying to talk me into going out and doing something.
We are going to keep a log of who we have talked to, yes?
And I want a special place in the system of punishment for the "you didn't win the car but you have won a free [whatever]" when I KNOW that we didn't enter (and when I lived alone I was absotively posilutly sure of it). GRRRR
I have been known to use 555-1212 in web pages when they require a number and I see no reason to give them mine.
