Computer hardware help?
Oct. 19th, 2009 07:29 pmI have the following instruction for installing a piece of hardware: "Use the EEPROM to program the device ID for function 0 to 0x950A" -- I assume this means that there is an eeprom chip on the device card, and that... it has toggles for one or more functions, and that I should flip them to get hex 950A. Is that right? Or is there a software solution to this?
The weekend at Fest was long, cold, and wet. Perhaps the most dismal weekend of Fest I can remember, and yet the cast and crew came together and made the most of it. We found humor and warmth and music and love somewhere scattered in between the spitting rain. We chased away the bone-chilling cold with hot chocolate, coffee, and cider. And hugs. The way that families overcome strife in the dreariest of times. For Fest is very much a family, with its share of dear nieces and crazy uncles, and the cousin who loves practical jokes.
But I have another, dearer family gifted me by nature, which has suddenly felt the chill of death. My sister's father-in-law was walking near his New York home in the pre-dawn hours of Saturday morning, when he was struck and killed by a hit-and-run driver. My sister and her husband are devastated, and my family is in shock. But we will support one another as we can, and look for humor and love between the tears, and find warmth in our words and in our hugs.

Yesterday: Constitution Day!
Sep. 18th, 2009 10:15 amI just wanted to point out that yesterday was Constitution Day, the 222nd anniversary of the signing of the Constitution. I didn't see anything about it in LJ-land, or FB-land. Nobody e-mailed me and said, OMGBBQ!!!1!11! -- Iz Rulz of teh Country Day!!!1!1!
We did get an e-mail at work suggesting we take some time and think about the importance of the Constitution. Of course, the e-mail was sent at 7:30pm, long after all the employees had left for the day.
We the People of the United States, in Order to form a more perfect Union, establish Justice, insure domestic Tranquility, provide for the common defence, promote the general Welfare, and secure the Blessings of Liberty to ourselves and our Posterity, do ordain and establish this Constitution for the United States of America.

I'm just hoping a new superhero themed park will be added to the Disney properties in Florida.
And I wonder if this will force a name change for Universal Studio's Hulk roller coaster.

Woot! Jogging
Aug. 26th, 2009 10:22 pmThis morning, I had no aspirations beyond simply making it around my normal loop. 1.8 miles, mostly jogging, a couple bits of walking near the middle to catch my breath. But woo-hoo! I made it all the way 'round jogging! I was jogging kinda slow there near the end, but I did it!

I'm waiting for "them" to discover that gravity is not a weak force, but a pair of opposing forces, one attractive and one repulsive. The net result on "normal" matter is slightly attractive, but the result on "dark" matter is slightly repulsive -- thus the universe (being mostly dark matter) continues to expand, and at an increasing rate.
Maybe there is a sci-fi novel in that idea somewhere. Activate the dark-matter gravimetric drive!
